EMERGE
Embarking on Meaningful Employment and Real Growth in Everyday Living
Monarch has redefined our Transition Services program to EMERGE: Embarking on Meaningful Employment and Real Growth in Everyday living. Transition services are often defined as the period right after high school. However, our goal is much broader. Given the increasing prevalence of mental health challenges among young adults, the EMERGE program aims to establish a supportive community. Here, our participants can cultivate genuine friendships, enjoy engaging social events, and acquire essential skills for independence—all while actively pursuing employment opportunities.
The EMERGE program at The Monarch School and Institute serves adults with neurological differences aged 18 and up. Our learners are often diagnosed with neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, IDD, or similar challenges that impact learning and development. Our adult learners have the opportunity to work through challenges in organization, planning, motivation, social and emotional development, and information processing. In the EMERGE program, we follow a step-by-step process towards employment and independent living at the level of need for each individual. Following our Four Core Goal system, we first assess each learner’s interest, values, and current abilities. From there we design a plan to move the learner forward towards their future goals.
Employment Enterprises
At The Monarch School, we offer a range of enterprise employment opportunities for adults with neurological differences. The enterprises include Culinary, Horticulture, Retail, Maker Space (woodworking), and Production (including jewelry and apparel). These initiatives provide places for learners to explore options while earning pay that is greater than minimum wage.
The Enterprises System at Monarch began out of a growing desire for our individuals to feel a sense of truly belonging within their community. We acknowledge that while some individuals excel in conventional competitive employment settings, others with neurological differences may require additional support structures. These individuals may benefit from a more structured environment, on-site job coaching, or an inclusive workplace where all staff are trained to work effectively with individuals possessing specific disabilities. Our commitment lies in fostering environments that cater to the unique requirements of each learner, ensuring their success and fulfillment within our programs.
